INTASC #4: Content Knowledge

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and central concepts of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

INTASC Standard #4 Interpretation:

It is my duty to be knowledgable about my content area, it is also my responsibility to to be able to manipulate complex course material into an easily accessible form of information across each level of proficiency. In doing this I will be providing the opportunity for learners to develop mastery of content in the subject area.

Artifacts:

1.)art critic paper 2011

2.)women in visual arts paper

3.)artist pages

Reflection on the Standard:

The following artifacts demonstrate my understanding of INTASC standard #4 content knowledge. The first two artifacts I have chosen to represent my duty as an art educator to be knowledgable about my content area. the two art history paper’s allowed me to master the ability of taking a work of art and being able to critic the work of the artist through:  discription, analysis , and interpretation. I chose to include a paper completed in a women in visual arts course to provide an example to the variety of art history knowledge I have attained in my studies. The third and final artifact is a powerpoint of different artists of both genders, coming from different type of backgrounds that I plan to incorporate into my lessons, when I become an art teacher.
